Deen Dayal Upadhyay Swaniyojan Yojana – The Rural Avatar of Startup India

Deen Dayal Upadhyay Swaniyojan Yojana is a new initiative being designed by the Rural Development Ministry of India. The action plan of Swaniyojan Yojana is being finalized and it will be launched soon by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.

Objective of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Swaniyojan Yojana

The main objective of Swaniyojan Yojana is to provide incentives such as financial assistance to the rural poor looking for self-employment options.
The scheme will be launched on the lines of Start-Up India initiative which was launched in January 2016 to help grow the start-up ecosystem in India. The scheme will be integrated with MUDRA Bank Loan Yojana, innovative credit linkages and self-help groups. Swaniyojan Yojana will be funded by the existing National Rural Livelihood Mission of the rural development ministry.
The scheme will provide the basic skill set required for self employment in various fields. To do so, the government would provide credit linkages, incubation centers wherever needed. The skill sets would be related to driving, plumbing, agriculture, dairy farming, grafting and horticulture among others.
The rural development ministry is also in talks with some other government departments such as textile, animal husbandry, and food processing to help rural poor setup their own business in these fields.
Deen Dayal Upadhyay Swaniyojan Yojana will help generating livelihood through self-employment. The livelihood programme will provide training for activities ranging from beauty courses and masonry to horticulture and agriculture.
